Deputy Director Call upon society to take part in ‘3 trees for 3000’ tree planting campaign.

Addis Ababa (10/6/2008)- Deputy Director of the Addis Ababa Millennium Secretariat, Tewodros Zewdie call upon the society to participate actively in the ‘3 trees for 3000 tree planting campaign’
Tewodros said,’ without societies direct involvement, we can’t achieve the desired goal.’’
The Deputy Director notified that the secretariat has made available 2 million indigenous tree seedlings to be planted in Addis Ababa and its environs. These trees are of great value to the ecological balance and are heritages to the future generation.
Recollecting the effort being observed during the last year’s ‘2 trees for 2000’ campaign, Tewodros said that similar commitment is needed to this year’s ‘3 trees for 3000’ campaign. In the ‘2 trees for 2000’ campaign, city residents and the diplomatic community have planted two to five million indigenous tree seedlings in Addis Ababa and its surroundings.
Planting trees, is vital in moderating the city’s atmosphere, mitigate erosion, and create balance in fuel wood supply hereby proper use of natural resources.
In response to the call, Stand for Integrated Development Ethiopia, an indigenous non-governmental organization has undertaken tree nursing activities at the Millennium park and in other areas where trees are planted in conjunction with ‘2 trees for 2000’ and ‘3 trees for 3000’ campaign.
SID Ethiopia is founded by young enthusiastic environment activists with the objectives of protecting the environment through mobilizing high school students.
‘3 trees for 3000’ tree planting campaign is launched at the beginning of June 5, 2008 at Entoto Mountain in the presence His Excellency President Girma Wolde Giorgis.
High ranking government officials, representatives from various governmental and non governmental organizations, religious leaders, prominent persons and city residents took part in the campaign.
