City celebrate “Hidar Sitaten” cleaning  week

A symposium on sanitation and environment protection has been held at the Addis Ababa City Administration conference hall on November 21/2007.

The symposium is staged as part of the traditional annual ‘Hidar Sitaten’ day, by which the city residents under take for garbage cleaning and burning campaign.

Unlike the previous one day long ‘Hidar Sitaten’ campaign, it has prolonged to a week long period.

The main focus of the symposium is to contribute its part in altering the growing problems associated with environmental pollution.

Research papers on sanitation, environment protection and related issues have been presented and discussed well at the symposium.

Participants have underscored the need to strengthen the society’s culture of sanitation.

In an effort to mitigate the existing immense solid waste pollution, the city administration has planned to purchase 20 dry garbage clearing trucks in the near future.
