Office of Addis Ababa City Manager urged society develop visiting culture
Office of Addis Ababa City Manager with the Addis Ababa City Care Taker Administration, urged the society to develop its culture of protecting and visiting heritages in the new Millennium.
Director General Dr. Wubshet Birhanu said ,as we are celebrating the International Tourism Day the society at large is expected to visit and preserve natural and historical heritages more in the new Millennium.
He reminded of the Administration’s commitment in preserving historical sites in and around Addis Ababa for the future generation. While mentioning the presence of various tourist attractions worth visiting in Addis, the Manager insisted the society to promote the sites for Ethiopian and foreign tourists in every possible ways.
He also remarked the need to further strengthen the Millennium celebrations so that more income could be generated hereby attracting more tourists.
Director of the Addis Ababa Millennium Secretariat, Kiros Haile Sellassie in his part said “though our country is rich in tourist attractions, the income we generate from the sector is very low”, and he stressed the need to protect and promote the City’s heritages. He also under scored the need to create jobs for beggars here by eradicating poverty and create a favorable condition for tourists.
The Addis Ababa Tourism Commission Commissioner Dr Ayalew Sisay told that, Ethiopia is celebrating the International Tourism Day in a way it could support the country’s economic development. International Tourism Day has been celebrated from September 24 to 30 ,2007 with various events.
